She  received her doctoral degree from Medical College of Virginia in pharmacology and toxicology. Her masters of Science degree in forensic toxicology is from The George Washington University and undergraduate degree from Indiana State University in chemistry where she graduated magna cum laude.

EW #716 was employed with the medical examiners office in New York City and Richmond, Virginia before serving as Chief Toxicologist for Broward County, Florida from.

She is a private consultant, respected author and nationally recognized lecturer in postmortem and impairment toxicology. Her professional memberships include Society of Forensic Toxicologists and the American Academy of Forensic Sciences.
