More Details:

AIDS (acquired immune deficiency syndrome) is a chronic, life-threatening condition caused by the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). By damaging or destroying the cells of your immune system, HIV interferes with your body's ability to effectively fight off viruses, bacteria and fungi that cause disease.

"HIV" stands for "Human Immunodeficiency Virus," yet this "virus" has yet to be isolated. HIV tests don't look for a virus. These tests look for antibodies. The tests are not standardized from state to state, from country to country or even from lab to lab. One could test positive in one place and negative in another.
