More Details:

An autopsy, also known as a post-mortem examination or an obduction, is a medical procedure that consists of a thorough examination of a corpse to determine the cause and manner of a persons death and to evaluate any disease or injury that may be present. It is usually performed by a specialized medical doctor called a pathologist. A private or second independent autopsy can be requested by the legal next-of-kin (surviving spouse), or legally designated responsible party. Private and Second autopsies are usually requested for various reasons, i.e., question the cause of death, question the care of the patient, hospital will not perform autopsy, medical examiner will not perform autopsy, alleged medical malpractice. And health insurance claims along with other death benefits may be expedited by a private/second independent autopsy.
