Suspension Technology, Inc., January 2001 – October 2001, Manager of Engineering
Designed and assisted in the development of air suspension systems for the heavy and light truck/trailer industry. This included: engineering design, analysis, testing, engineering department management, manufacturing fixture design, project management, purchasing, and quality assurance.

Hendrickson Trailer Suspension Systems, January 1991 – January 2001, Manager of Analysis and Engineering Support
Designed and supported the development of air suspension systems for the heavy truck/trailer industry. Implemented new techniques, such as finite element analysis and fatigue of weldments. Designed pivot bushings for the air suspensions. Represented Hendrickson at each of the bushing suppliers, assuring that they met the design and quality requirements. Designed axle and brake components. This included creating test fixtures, finite element modeling, fatigue prediction, CAD drawings, and working with suppliers. Lead a cross-functional project team responsible for developing a new suspension system for a European customer.

Teledyne Monarch Rubber, January 1989 – January 1991, Product Engineer
Designed rubber-to-metal bonded suspension components for the automotive industry. Responsible for the Ford and BOC engine mount programs, requiring engineering involvement with: research and development, ISIR submission, quality assurance issues, cost estimation, and production-related issues. This required extensive interaction with: purchasing, sales, suppliers, lab technicians, and customers.

The Johnson Rubber Company, August 1988 – January 1989, Product Engineer
Designed equipment for extruded rubber products to improve the manufacturing processes, that included: auto-coilers, slitter guides, and automotive weatherstrip notchers. Implemented quality control testing improvements that included: writing procedures, equipment improvements, and calibrating instruments. Developed thermodynamic correlations for a hot water, closed system tester used to burst-test rubber tubing.

Course work focused on mechanical structural analysis, with specific courses in: Continuum Mechanics, Analysis of Mechanical Components, Applied Stress Analysis, Fatigue, Machine Dynamics, Introduction to Flexible Manufacturing Systems, and CAD/CAM. Master Thesis research investigated the vibration bounce modes of a tractor/trailer system, using derived equations and the ADAMS vehicle simulation program.
