I have a sincere interest to better pre-hospital care available to the public and serving on local committees to develop protocols for our EMS system. Since 1988 have been employed by the Hoover, Alabama Fire Department. Current assignment is Lieutenant of a Paramedic/Advanced Life Support(ALS)Engine Company responsible for overseeing shift crew. Formerly was assigned to a Paramedic/ALS Rescue Unit as leadworker on one of the busiest rescue units in our metropolitan area. Responsibilities now include being coordinator of our Emergency Operations plan. Past employment with other fire departments and ambulance services to total 20 plus years in the fire/ems field.

Through my wifes involvement in equestrian eventing, I have become involved in the development and improvement of pre-hospital care at events. Also, am very active in prevention of injuries within equestrian sports. Currently serving on committees and organizations to develop and monitor these requirements and conducting research.

Consultant and Expert Witness in relation to EMS matters, with special interest in EMS and safety issues for equestrian settings. Pre-hospital cardiac care is another area of particular interest.

Numerous articles published in various media sources regarding equestrian safety and EMS coverage for equestrian settings. Quarterly articles regarding equestrian safety published in the AMEA/SRF News.

Speaker at national conventions of equestrian organizations regarding safety and EMS issues. Also, have spoken at local EMS conventions on various topics as continuing education for providers. Conduct safety clinics as requested by various organizations. Assist annually with credentialling of EMS providers within my department and ACLS/BCLS/PALS training.

Have worked with various equestrian organizations developing safety standards for instructors including the US Eventing Association's Instructor Certification Program. Now working to develop a first aid/CPR/safety course designed specifically for the equestrian setting to prepare participants for emergencies encountered in this unique setting.

In 2003 completed a Disaster Response and Mitigation course at the National Fire Academy/Emergency Management Institute, Response to Terrorist Bombing course at New Mexico Technical College and in 2004 attended a Biological Weapons of Mass Destruction course sponsored by Louisiana State University to augment assignment as coordinator of Emergency Operations Plan for the City of Hoover, Alabama. Other activities included planning of a national conference on weapons of mass destruction and terrorism response that was held in summer 2003.
