Since establishing his own firm of consultants in 1984 his assignments have included the following: Advisor to Medgaz for the route investigation for Algeria-Spain Gas pipeline traversing water depths in excess of 2100m. Supervised the 2002 deepwater and nearshore surveys in Spain and Algeria. Project Surveyor for Parsons KDPC for the route investigation for a long shallow water (4m) pipeline in the Kashagan Field Development, Caspian Sea. Expert Witness in a dispute between an offshore surveying contractor and a survey equipment manufacturer regarding the equipment performance during a trans-ocean cable route survey. Consultant to Penspen regarding a choice of pipeline routes from an offshore location in South America through swamps and river delta to an onshore industrial area. Employed by SGS Mexico to provide experts opinion on eight cases of difference occurring with a Project Management Contractor over the development of a major offshore oil field development in the Gulf of Mexico. Advisor to North Trans Gas/Kvaerner regarding the survey aspects of a feasibility study for a proposed pipeline in the Baltic Sea. Responsibilities included reviewing project data, liasing with both Client and Survey Contractor regarding the field operations, reviewing the data processing and the final reports. Independent Expert during an international dispute regarding the installation of a telecommunications cable in the Mediterranean Sea. Engaged by major installation contractor to provide an Expert's opinion on a survey to verify the disputed status of installed pipelines in the Caribbean Sea . Manager for a Desktop Study for the FOG Cable Project, the purpose of which was to identify an economical route through the Arabian Gulf and to define a suitable scope of work for survey. Consultant to the Oman Oil Company for the management of the route selection surveys for the Oman-India Gas Pipeline Project, which involved site investigations in 3200m deep water. Duties included assisting Client with methodology, bid evaluation, and general management of the survey aspects of the project. Negotiation of a contract for the route survey of two proposed offshore loading lines for Stone and Webster in Iran. Duties included writing the scope of work and specifications, negotiating with a suitable contractor to perform the work, and supervising the offshore survey. Earlier work involved a field visit to the southern Iranian coast to identify a suitable landfall for the pipelines. Advisor to Brown and Root Energy Resources regarding the routing of a proposed Qatar-Pakistan pipeline. Work involved site investigations in water depths greater than 1000m. Project Surveyor for a Desktop Study to establish the feasibility of a pipeline installation between Iran and India. The proposed field survey involved site investigations in water depths greater than 1000m. Consultant to EMPL/JP Kenny and Partners for the detailed survey for proposed pipelines crossing the Strait of Gibraltar. Duties included the review of existing survey information, preparation of contract documents, assisting with the negotiation of survey contracts and supervising the survey field works on behalf of EMPL. Retained to assist with the supervision of the survey aspects of the construction and is currently retained for the organisation and management of the annual inspection surveys. Organisation and supervision of survey contract on behalf of Swedish State Power Board (Vattenfall) for the Bothnia Pipeline Project. Duties included assessment of existing data, preparation of tender documents, bid evaluation, contract negotiation, supervision of field work, and preparation of final report. Organisation and supervision of a survey contract on behalf of BECHTEL for 1700km of pipeline crossing twenty two major rivers in India. Work included a visual reconnaissance of unclassified rivers; this involved photography, field measurements and diagrams of existing structures and river profiles. The survey was commissioned to identify areas of potential flooding and included a report with further recommendations. Organisation and supervision of the survey aspects of the Scott Field Development for Amerada Hess. Work involved preparation of survey specifications for all design and construction works, participation in bid evaluations, review of contractor's procedures, and supervision of offshore works. Duties included review of existing survey data and preparation of specifications for Positioning and Construction Survey. Bid evaluation for ARCO/JP Kenny for the survey aspects of the Welland Field Pipeline Installation, North Sea. Supervision of pipeline route investigation for Chinese Petroleum Company. Duties included on site quality control of survey data, selection of final route for further survey, and reviewing contractor's draft report. Supervision of pipeline route investigation for IPCO Malaysia. Duties included quality control of survey data acquisition and selection of final route for further survey. Supervision of the main contractor for MOBIL during the installation of three flowlines and two cables in the Beryl Field, North Sea. Duties included the assessment of survey and video results to determine the acceptability of burial depths. Bid evaluation for QGPC/Bechtel for the survey aspects of the North Field Pipeline Development, Qatar. Management and supervision of survey and dredging contractor for SAIPEM during the installation of the ARCO Gas Pipeline at Bacton. Management and supervision of survey contractor for SAIPEM during the installation and burial of pipelines in the BP Villages Development, North Sea. Navigation quality control for regional seismic exploration work in the North Sea for Britoil. Supervision of site surveys for rig positioning for MARATHON in the North Sea, and provision of performance report to the client. Supervision of site surveys for rig positioning for Shell in Egypt, and provision of consultants report. Supervision for GAS DEL ESTADO during the seabed preparation and installation of a gas pipeline across the Strait of Magellan. 1978 1984 R J BROWN AND ASSOCIATES Chief Surveyor, forming part of Project Support Services and responsible for advising in house design teams regarding seabed information. Duties included writing technical specifications and scopes of work for survey contracts, negotiating with suitable contractors, and supervising site investigations and inspections offshore. Major projects included: Project Chief Surveyor for ZADCO for the design, installation and inspection of 750 km of pipeline, offshore Abu Dhabi. Supervising Surveyor for BRITISH GAS during seabed preparation and installation of the main gas pipeline to shore in Morecambe Bay. Supervising Engineer for AMOCO Netherlands during the site investigation for an oil pipeline through the submarine sand dunes, offshore Netherlands. Supervising Engineer for SHELL during the site investigation for the shore approaches of an oil loading pipeline, offshore Oman. Surveyor for NORSK HYDRO Oseberg Transportation Project. Assisted in preparation of a technical report on pipeline route evaluation through pockmarks. Assistant Engineer for GAS DEL ESTADO, Argentina, preparing Construction Specifications for pipeline stabilisation works. Supervising Engineer for SUCO during seabed preparation for an oil loading pipeline, Gulf of Suez, Egypt. Duties involved supervising the survey and dredging contractors to achieve suitable seabed conditions for shore pull. 1975 1978 OCEANEERING INTERNATIONAL SERVICES Survey Manager. Responsible for the organisation of all the company's marine survey work throughout the Middle East area. Earlier, as Project Surveyor, undertook a variety of survey work in the Middle East and in the North Sea, including site investigations, pipeline route surveys, wellhead searches, feasibility studies, and dredge surveys for harbour construction. 1972 1974 DECCA SURVEY LTD Senior Surveyor. Initially assigned on laybarges in the Ekofisk Field in the North Sea, undertaking barge positioning during pipelay operations. Later became Surveyor in Charge in the Nigeria Office, with responsibility for survey work on behalf of the Nigerian Ports Authority. Later was a member of the survey team seconded to ARAMCO, Saudi Arabia, for surveys of well locations, pipelines and tanker channels, and as built surveys of developed oil installations. 1969 1971 VOLUNTARY SERVICE OVERSEAS Volunteer, serving overseas under the auspices of the British Council and working on the hydrological survey of Zambia. Responsible for the maintenance of 42 hydrometric stations in the Kafue River catchment covering 30,000 square miles of North West Zambia. Duties included the preliminary assessment of local water resources, the investigation of new sites, and the training and payment of local staff.
