He is certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgeons and the American Board of Spine Surgery. He has authored numerous publications and textbook chapters on a variety of spine disorders, injuries, and treatments, including a textbook on spinal fractures. He has taught extensively at symposiums throughout the world. He has presented more than 250 lectures to orthopedic surgeons, researchers, and educators. Within the field of research, He holds or has held national and international appointments to such prestigious groups as the North American Spine Society (Executive Committee) and the Scoliosis Research Society (Board of Directors). He has also been an Executive Board member of the International Society for Study of the Lumbar Spine. He served as Trustee of the AO Foundation and was Chairman of the AO Spine Courses. In 1984 he was a recipient of the prestigious Volvo Award for the best Basic Science Research Study awarded by the International Society for the Study of the Lumbar Spine. He was Coordinator of the Scoliosis Research Society's International Spine Fracture Study.

BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION:
He is a Board Certified internationally respected orthopedic surgeon with extended training in spine surgery. Within the field of spine, He brings 30 years of clinical experience as a spine specialist and has devoted the last 16 years exclusively to treating complex spinal trauma cases resulting from automobile and other accidents, as well as complex degenerative disorders of the spine, spinal tumors, and spinal deformities, such as scoliosis.

He received his medical degree from the university of Toronto in Canada and obtained a research and clinical fellowship in orthopedic surgery in Toronto prior to pursuing an additional year of specialized spinal training in London, England and Hong Kong.

Prior to his appointment to the Baylor College of Medicine as full professor on the full-time faculty, He held the rank of full Professor at the University of Toronto and was Director of the Spine Trauma unit at Sunnybrook Medical Centre, the largest spine centre in Canada. As well, he taught at the University of Texas Medical School for 4 years where he was voted best teacher by the orthopedic residents.

He has received an international award for his research, the prestigious Volvo Award, sponsored by the International Society for Study of the Lumbar Spine. He has published over 50 peer-reviewed articles in scientific journals and has authored 25 textbook chapters, as well as a textbook on spine fractures.

In addition to his published work, He has lectured extensively on a variety of spine disorders, injuries, and treatment, including over 250 presentations, many as a visiting professor and guest lecturer at colleges, universities and orthopedic societies throughout the world.

Within the field of research, he holds or has held national and international appointments on the Executive Boards of the International Society for Study of the Lumbar Spine, the North American Spine Society and the Scoliosis Research Society. He currently serves on the editorial board of the journals, Spine & The Spine Journal. He currently serves on the board of the American College of Spine Surgery.

He has traveled to third world countries providing humanitarian aid. In 1994 he rendered medical care to the injured suffering in the war torn regions of Croatia.
