BIO / Resume / CV:

Certified Appraisers, Inc. is a multidisciplinary firm specializing in the appraisal/valuation of:

  • Closely held Businesses
  • Business Personal Property
  • Intangible Business Assets
  • Machinery and Equipment
  • Commercial Real Property
  • Residential Real Property
  • Economic Losses
  • Business Damages

Since 1972 our management has been involved in determining business and litigation-related values, operating a variety of successful businesses and brokering the sale of closely Held companies.  Our team is highly qualified and experienced in multidisciplinary valuation classifications.  Appraisers certified by one or more of the national appraisal societies are assigned to conduct and/or review all appraisal reports.  Management assigned to assess litigation-related values have the credentials to qualify as experts and have extensive experience in testifying.

Each of our appraisers subscribe to the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practices as promulgated by the Appraisal Foundation.  The Appraisal Foundation is the parent entity for the Appraisal Standards Board and the Appraisal Qualification Board which most national appraisal societies now support.  These standards deal with the procedures to be followed in developing an appraisal, analysis, or opinion and the manner in which it is communicated.  The users of an appraisal should demand work performed in conformity with these standards.

The trend toward increased sophistication renders obsolete the old "seat-of-the pants" approach to appraisals, valuations, analysis, and opinions.  When these types of assignments are necessary, it is increasingly important to have competent experts and thoroughly documented reports.  Complex laws and court interpretations of the laws require greater attention to fiduciary responsibilities by  professionals, especially where litigation may be involved.

Our team members have frequently served as expert witnesses in federal courts as well as in state district courts throughout most of the Southern United States.  Our  services have been used for property settlements, marital dissolution, partnership dissolution, eminent domain proceedings, estate matters, general business litigation, mergers and acquisitions, personal injury and wrongful death, labor and employment, admiralty law, shareholder disputes and securities law.  Our clients include individual business owners, large corporations, attorneys, accountants, and governmental agencies.

AMERICAN SOCIETY OF APPRAISERS  PROFESSIONAL PARAMETERS:

The American Society of Appraisers is a professional organization of individuals.  International in structure, it is a self-supporting, unaffiliated and independent.  The Society works cooperatively for the elevation of the appraisal profession.  It is one of eight major appraisal societies that helped to found the Appraisal Foundation, a national self-regulatory organization created in 1987 to establish uniform qualification criteria for professional appraisers, to develop standards for appraisal work, and to provide other programs to serve the Public.

The Society was originated in 1936 and is the only major appraisal organization representing all of the disciplines of appraisal specialists.  They are headquartered in suburban Washington, DC and currently have over 5,000 members.

Society members include specialists in business valuation, machinery and equipment, personal property (fine arts, antiques, residential contents, gems and jewelry, and a variety of other subjects), real property (residential, commercial, industrial, and agricultural), and technical valuation (public utilities, industrials, natural resources, and others); in short, all types of property, tangible and intangible, real or personal.

Each Society member who has conclusively demonstrated that he or she is qualified to appraise one or more kinds of property has been certified.  Such certification is predicated upon Society criteria: intensive written examinations, submission of representative appraisal reports and screening of applicant's practice and ethics.  With five years or more of full-time valuation experience members are granted the right to use the professional designation ASA (Accredited Senior Appraiser).  With more than two years but less than five years of experience members may use the professional designation AM (Accredited Member).

Senior appraisers are required to recertify, every five years, through a mandatory continuing education process.  Ethical practices and conduct required of Society members are clearly defined in The Principles of Appraisal Practice and Code of Ethics of the American Society of Appraisers.
