Own and manage a full-service medical illustration studio providing high-quality original artwork to the medical, legal, pharmaceutical, advertising, medical instrumentation and publishing communities. Illustrations are executed in black and white or color using a variety of techniques, both traditional and digital. Work closely with Art Directors, Editors, Authors, and Publishers to develop and implement consistent, cost-effective art programs for periodicals, small and large books, medical education materials and promotional, marketing and advertisement collateral publications. Work closely with Lawyers, Paralegals, and Expert Witnesses to develop, budget, and create compelling demonstrative evidence for litigation support.

Managed a satellite office location serving the northeastern region of the United States. In affiliation with VA, this office provided high-quality original artwork to the medical, legal, pharmaceutical, advertising, medical instrumentation and publishing communities. Illustrations, animation's and 3 dimensional models are executed in a variety of techniques, both traditional and digital. Worked closely with Attorneys, Paralegals and Legal Assistants, Editors, Art Directors, and Authors to develop and implement consistent, cost-effective art programs for exhibits, advertising or promotional campaigns, books and related media.

Worked closely with Acquisitions and Developmental Editors to identify, interview, and contracting individual illustrators and illustration studios to provide artwork for Medical and Nursing titles. Established budget and style guidelines, negotiated and wrote vendor contracts, set work protocols and project schedules for individual titles. Reviewed digital files for quality control and format consistency and prepared match prints and sample digital files for Electronic Publishing and Book Production. Approved vendor invoices and negotiated settlements on billing disputes.

Illustrated medical, surgical, anatomical, allied health and veterinary texts, designed graphics for book covers and trade show exhibits, executed page dummies and mechanicals, and sized illustrations for reproduction. Expanded the range of services offered by the Art Department to include more complicated assignments such as surgical and anatomical subjects, full color illustrations, and complete illustrated art programs for many Saunders titles. Interacted with Authors and Editors independently in the development of book projects.

INTERNSHIP

Biomedical Communications Facility, University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, Phila., Pa (February 1983-May 1983)
Assisted the staff illustrator, Ms. Karen Ott, A.M.I., in the creation of anatomical, surgical, biological and veterinary illustrations, charts and graph and poster presentations for the Hospital of University of Pennsylvania, Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, U. of P. Hospital of Veterinary Medicine. Created a presentation portfolio of work consisting of 15 finished illustrations demonstrating facility in various media including pen and ink, carbon dust, pencil, watercolor, airbrush, and colored pencil. Autopsies, specimen studies, videotapes and print reference materials were used in the creation of portfolio illustrations.

Complete illustration curriculum. Medical illustration electives. Established and fulfilled an independent study with Mr. Steve Gigliotti, F.A.M.I. Worked with the director of the evening division to expand the schools offering of Medical and Scientific illustration courses. Worked to establish an exchange program with LaSalle College to enable students with an interest in medical illustration to take anatomy, physiology and chemistry courses for credit. Coordinated the Illustration department's efforts to establish an exchange program in Natural History Illustration with the Royal College of Art's School of Graphic Arts, London, England. Arranged and fulfilled a medical illustration internship program between University of the Arts and University of Pennsylvania's Department of Biomedical Communications.
