EW #1674has spent the entire 29 years of his industrial metalworking career as a metallurgical and quality assurance specialist. He holds a BS in Engineering Science (Metallurgical Option) from the Fenn College of Engineering at Cleveland State University. He also studied for his MBA (Operations Management) at The University of Toledo, and has since completed at least two dozen continuing education and technical conference courses and seminars on various metallurgy and quality science topics.
Hehas worked in several metallurgical and quality assurance positions for some of the best known companies in their respective industries in the Cleveland area and other locations in the Midwest. He learned his early metallurgy in the welded carbon and stainless steel tubing business at Republic Steel Corporation on Clevelands east side as an entry level technician while attending CSU at night. He went on to hold Plant Metallurgist and Chief Metallurgist positions at Ferry Cap & Set Screw and SIFCO Forge, respectively, gaining knowledge in fasteners and forgings, as well as familiarity with alloy steels, aerospace superalloys and titanium.
Hisquality assurance career was expanded while the Director of Quality Assurance and Metallurgy at both Walker Forge in Wisconsin and Brush Wellman, Inc. in Elmore, OH, where a good deal of knowledge about beryllium and beryllium copper alloys and their metallurgy was gained. Eds experience in designing and implementing formal, documented quality assurance systems and training in basic statistical and metallurgical methods was honed in these positions.
QTS provides basic and advanced metallurgical and quality science consulting and training for a wide range of metalworking companies in the Midwest. These services range from material selection research and design considerations through processing, fabrication, welding, testing and failure analysis in the metallurgical arena, as well as quality assurance system design, training and pre-certification guidance. Heis a certified Lead Auditor for both ISO 9000 and QS-9000 quality systems.
