He i s publisher of the online newsletter Boardroom INSIDER, the worldwide source for practical, first-hand advice on better boards and directors. He is author of the books Saving the Corporate Board (2003), Improving Corporate Boards: The Boardroom INSIDER Guidebook (2000), and the influential 1997 book 21st Century Corporate Board (all John Wiley & Sons), the latter having been translated into several languages.

EW #1201  offers a consulting service for corporations, examining how effective their board's governance is, and developing specific proposals for board improvement.

He speaks extensively on boardroom issues in the U.S. and internationally (UK, Hong Kong, India, Singapore, etc.), with media appearances including CNNfn, C-SPAN, Voice of America, Marketplace, and CNBC (U.S. and U.K.).

He  has edited The Corporate Board magazine, the international journal of corporate governance, since 1990. He writes and comments on boardroom matters for a number of other publications, including The New York Times, USA Today, The Wall Street Journal, Barron's, Fortune, Across the Board, Vital Speeches, the Detroit Free Press and San Francisco Business Times.
