EW #789 is a group of forensic psychologists whose expertise represents an extensive range of skills and experience in the psychological evaluation of:
psychological and emotional injuries in employment, harassment, and tort cases, competency to stand trial and dangerousness in criminal cases, parenting capacity in child custody cases and child visitation cases, and neurological impairment in tort and personal injury cases.
Each forensic psychologist in our group has developed a specialized expertise and knowledge of psychology as it relates to a broad range of legal issues in which either an emotional injury has been claimed, or, in which the psychological or emotional status of an individual is at issue before the law.
With offices in Dade and Broward counties the affiliates are regularly called upon to be expert witness psychologists in the four county area [Broward, Miami-Dade, Palm Beach, and Monroe], to provide assistance to the Court, or to individual lawyers, in assessing the psychological claims in a wide variety of cases in which an expert witness psychologist's unique skills can be of assistance to the judicial process.
The forensic psychologist associates have appeared as expert witnesses in both state and Federal courts about a wide variety of psychological issues - in civil cases in which there have been claims of emotional damages (such as post traumatic stress disorder) arising out of alleged employment discrimination, sexual harassment, or physical injury; in criminal cases to address questions of competency to stand trial or dangerousness; in family cases to assist the Court in making recommendations concerning visitation and custody, the presence of parental alienation, and, about allegations of child abuse or neglect.
We have all trained first as clinical psychologists providing child therapy, family therapy, and adult psychotherapy services. At one time or another we have each held faculty positions at colleges, universities, or community mental health centers teaching others our skills in forensic psychology and in psychological assessment. This training and experience has led to each forensic psychologist being skilled in the review and understanding of empirical research involving the interface of psychological processes and legal issues.
Out of this training and teaching some of us have gone on to publish articles about forensic matters [see: RESOURCES AND PUBLICATIONS]; all of us, as forensic psychologists, have become skilled in teaching - particularly lawyers and the bench - about understanding, and challenging, psychological and psychiatric testimony in the courtroom. As part of our ongoing commitment to education we provide a quarterly newsletter for the legal community on topics of interest, and use, in forensic psychology.
Our professional network, and this site, is geared towards providing information and access to us and to our services. We invite any inquiries, comments or suggestions.
